The studio
Where is TEMI JOHNSON located?
TEMI JOHNSON is a private portrait studio in Hamilton, Ontario, serving Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto, Niagara and the rest of Southern Ontario.
What kinds of portraits do you create?
TEMI JOHNSON creates three kinds of commissioned portraits: maternity portraits, women’s portraits and multigenerational family portraits, each finished as artwork for the home.
How quickly do you reply to inquiries?
Every inquiry is answered personally within 24 hours, and usually much sooner.
Your sitting
I don’t know how to pose. Is that a problem?
No. Every pose, hand placement and expression is directed for you, so you never have to guess.
What should I wear?
You can choose from the client closet, which runs from small through 1X and 2X and beyond, bring your own pieces, or mix both. Every piece is planned together before your sitting.
Is hair and makeup included?
Yes. Your sitting begins with about an hour of hair and makeup at the studio.
How long is a sitting?
A sitting runs about three hours at the studio in Hamilton, including hair and makeup and as many pauses as you need.
When should I book a maternity sitting?
Most maternity sittings happen between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy, so begin the conversation early in your second trimester.
How many people can be in a family portrait?
Up to six people are included. Larger families are welcome, with an additional sitting fee explained in your conversation.
Your portraits and artwork
When will I see my portraits?
Your private reveal happens in person within 7 days of your sitting.
Do I get digital files?
Yes. Matching digital copies of every portrait you choose as artwork arrive with your finished artwork.
How long until my artwork is delivered?
Most commissions take 6 to 12 weeks from the first conversation to artwork delivery.
Do you install the artwork?
Yes. Installation is included with The Heirloom and The Inheritance, and can be arranged for any collection within Hamilton to Toronto.
Will my portraits appear online?
Only with your written consent. Discretion is part of every commission.
Investment and policies
How much does a commission cost?
Commissions begin at $4,250, including your sitting, private reveal and finished artwork. Full details are on The Experience page.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. Half of your balance is due at the reveal, and the rest can be paid in up to three monthly payments.
What if I need to reschedule?
For medical reasons, your retainer is held for 12 months and can move to another chapter or family member. For other reasons, you can reschedule once with 14 days’ notice.
